Sarah Fink

Sarah Fink earned her BS in Biology from the State University of New York University at Albany, and Masters of Arts in Teaching from Union Graduate College in Schenectady, NY. In her 17 years of teaching in New York’s North Country classrooms, she has taught Regents’ Earth Science, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, middle-level science to grades 5-8, and middle-level math. As an educator, she believes in integrating science education with the local community. She founded a student-led Green Team, sponsored STEM experiences for middle school girls, and helped connect students with regional science research teams. When her school implemented a 1:1 Chromebook program, she hosted workshops for teachers and parents and created an EdTech blog to share best-practices.

Sarah is a New York State Master Teacher Emeritus and has been an active regional leader in the Science Teachers Association of NYS, currently serving on the statewide STANYS Professional Learning Committee. In 2016, she and Cookie Barker co-founded the 3D Science Cafe blog website to house lessons and templates for science teachers looking to manage the transition to new NGSS / NYSSLS science standards. Sarah and Cookie were the recipients of the STANYS Service Award for their work on the website and its resources. In addition to hosting professional learning workshops for teachers with a team of colleagues across NY State, Sarah is the 3D Science Cafe website administrator.

Sarah is currently a science teacher at Johnsburg Central School, a rural pK-12 school at the foot of Gore Mountain in the southeastern Adirondacks. She and her husband enjoy traveling and exploring with their two children.

Traveling the NGSS Highway: Engage & Explore - Workshop Series 1 (registration will be for 3 sessions total)

Are you wondering how to best navigate the Next Generation Science Standards? Science teachers Cookie Barker and Sarah Fink from the 3D Science Café will help you map out your journey. We will engage workshop participants in an inquiry lesson showcasing the instructional strategies found to be effective in our own classrooms. Graphic organizers and templates developed by the café educators will help you build your own phenomenon-based 3-dimensional lessons to use immediately with your students. This workshop series is offered over multiple sessions to allow for peer collaboration and support, giving you the confidence to continue designing NGSS-compatible lessons.
